Learn Local: Introduction to Conservation — A Pathway to Caring for Country

April 15, 2026

Caring for the land is more than a skill. It is a relationship, a responsibility, and a cultural practice that has guided First Nations communities for generations. The Learn Local: Introduction to Conservation program invites community members to reconnect with Country while gaining practical conservation skills that can support future study or employment.

The flyer explains that this is “an introduction to conservation… for those interested in their local environment and pursuing conservation in their own lives”, and that purpose shapes the entire experience.

🌿 What the Program Offers

Participants spend three full days learning outdoors at nugal biik Plants and Seeds at Wollert Community Farm. The program blends cultural knowledge with hands on environmental work, including:

  • Connection to Country and traditional land management
  • Employment and training pathways in conservation
  • Seed collection and plant nursery skills
  • Guided cultural walks and site visits
  • Practical conservation activities such as revegetation, weed management, and water surveys

The flyer highlights that the course “includes hands on learning in an outdoors and practical environment”, making it ideal for people who learn best through real experience.
