International Women’s Day (IWD) is a time to honour the courage and determination of all women. WCC celebrated IWD with women who participate in and lead our women’s groups in the City of Whittlesea. It is these women whose voices, support and advocacy help pave the way for gender equality in our community. Local community leader, Krishanthi Liyanage, presented at our event by paying homage to the strength and resilience of women with her beautiful poem ‘Women’.
WOMEN
Who is she?
How did she come to our world?
Did she come through a fairy dream?
You are soft, beautiful, so lovely & strong.
Your smile will give breath to this world.
Who are you?
I don’t know.
You are a very lovely mother to your baby.
you are a dear wife to your husband.
You are a valuable sister for your brother.
You are a kind grandma to your grandchildren.
You are a friend in an everlasting friendship.
But I know your relationships are way off connecting everyone’s life together.
sometimes you are a nurse providing care to the patients.
sometimes you are a teacher sharing your knowledge with your students.
Sometimes you are a singer and your voice will attracting everyone’s mind.
Sometimes you are a dancer capturing everyone’s heart.
Sometimes you are an artist creating unique artworks.
Sometimes you are a chef making delicious meals.
You are a precious creation of this beautiful world.
You are a WOMAN.
Greatest gift of the whole world.
Please protect her with your whole heart.
Please love her forever.
