Celebrating community action and Liz Buckley’s Sustainability and Environment Citizen of the Year Award

March 16, 2026

A recent community festival was a cheerful and rewarding day for the Whittlesea Climate Action Network (WCAN), bringing together many local residents and celebrating environmental action in our community. The day also included a very special moment, when our group’s founding member, Liz Buckley, received the Sustainability and Environment Citizen of the Year Award.

WCAN hosted a stall where volunteers connected with community members and chatted about climate action, waste reduction and caring for our local environment.

A highlight of the day was the Pledge Tree, where visitors wrote their commitments to climate and environmental action. WCAN also launched a community survey, inviting residents to share their ideas and help guide the group’s future community action plan.

Visitors also enjoyed fresh fruit locally sourced from Food Collective Wholesaler, adding a lovely local touch to the stall.

Liz Buckley had been nominated for this year’s community awards for her incredible volunteer work with WCAN and her conservation efforts at Wollert Community Farm. Her dedication and passion continue to inspire the community.

Congratulations Liz on this well-deserved recognition.
