Volunteering & New Arrivals

Volunteering is a cornerstone of Victoria’s social fabric, with 2.3 million individuals contributing significantly to both the economy and community. Despite its recognised benefits in health, well-being, and skill development, little attention has been given to its impact on integration for migrants and refugees in Australia.

This project, focusing on the experiences of 20 participants in Whittlesea, sheds light on the transformative power of volunteering for newcomers. From enhancing language skills to securing employment, volunteering emerges as a vital pathway to settlement success, fostering connections, empowerment and a sense of belonging in the community.
