preventing harm from gambling

Picture
Whittlesea Community Connections recognises that gambling is causing significant harm to City of Whittlesea residents.

In the last 12 months, residents lost over $106 million dollars to electronic gaming machines alone[1] and 1 in 10 residents experienced harm as a result of gambling[2]. Furthermore, for every person experiencing significant issues with gambling,
it is estimated that 5 to 10 others will be negatively affected[3].

Between 2016-17 Whittlesea Community Connections delivered a project that supported City of Whittlesea businesses to protect staff from harm by de-normalising gambling in the workplace. Businesses that participated in this project included Melbourne Market, City of Whittlesea, YMCA Whittlesea, Plenty Valley Community Health and Whittlesea Community Connections.

Below are some useful resources developed through the project:

Talking about Gambling – Considerations for Community Workers

Whittlesea Community Connections is committed to advocating on behalf of the community for changes to reduce people’s risk of experiencing harm from gambling.
