WCC celebrated IWD with women who participate in and lead our women’s groups in the City of Whittlesea. It is these women whose voices\, support and advocacy help pave the way for gender equality in our community. Local community leader\, Krishanthi Liyanage\, presented at our event by paying homage to the strength and resilience of women with her beautiful poem ‘Women’.\n\n\nWOMEN\n\n\nWho is she?\nHow did she come to our world?\nDid she come through a fairy dream?\nYou are soft\, beautiful\, so lovely & strong.\nYour smile will give breath to this world.\nWho are you?\nI don’t know.\nYou are a very lovely mother to your baby.\nyou are a dear wife to your husband.\nYou are a valuable sister for your brother.\nYou are a kind grandma to your grandchildren.\nYou are a friend in an everlasting friendship.\nBut I know your relationships are way off connecting everyone’s life together.\nsometimes you are a nurse providing care to the patients.\nsometimes you are a teacher sharing your knowledge with your students.\nSometimes you are a singer and your voice will attracting everyone’s mind.\nSometimes you are a dancer capturing everyone’s heart.\nSometimes you are an artist creating unique artworks.\nSometimes you are a chef making delicious meals.\nYou are a precious creation of this beautiful world.\nYou are a WOMAN.\nGreatest gift of the whole world.\nPlease protect her with your whole heart.\nPlease love her forever.
