This EMPOWER project utilises multiple strategies to engage vulnerable young people and enable participants to self-identify goals that improve health and wellbeing and pathways to social, civic and economic participation opportunities. This includes assertive outreach to build trust, group work to develop social and peer support, information sessions that facilitate connections to services and youth led social events that build on young people’s strengths and celebrate achievements. WCC’s established Youth Advisory Group is keen to provide leadership and peer support to project participants. The project will be overseen by a working group made up of young people and relevant stakeholders.
The Leaders of Tomorrow (The LOT) is a youth advisory group that aims to advocate for young people’s needs in the Whittlesea Community. The group meets once a fortnight to discuss issues pertaining to youth within the community, while working on ideas and projects to help address these issues. THE LOT play a vital role in consulting with young people to inform and advise Whittlesea Community Connections and the broader community of the needs that exist within youth in the community. The LOT’s mission includes “to engage, empower and educate through volunteering!”
