driverED is a friendly, multilingual, professional driving school operating in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
The only social enterprise driving school in Australia, our team of instructors provide high quality, low cost, culturally appropriate lessons to learner drivers experiencing barriers to obtaining their driving test due to language, income or a limited understanding of Australia’s road laws and regulations.
We partner with community-focused organisations and services that are working with migrant, refugee and humanitarian entrants who require driving lessons for employment, economic empowerment, and connection.
More than just a driving school, we support migrant and refugee people to start their own business as certified driving instructors, offering real income alongside tailored coaching and support.
What we deliver
We deliver lessons 6am to 9pm, 7 days per week. Our modern vehicles are dual controlled and fully insured. Our services include:
- Learner Permit support
- Staged driving lessons (automatic only)
- Road structures, laws and ethics
- Hazard Perception Test
- Refresher courses
- Test simulation
- Overseas license conversion support
- Competency reports to ensure appropriate skill development and instructor compatibility
- Client check-ins and links to additional social support services
Delivery sites
driverED operates across the northern suburbs of Melbourne, covering the local government areas of Whittlesea, Nillumbik, Merri-bek, Hume, Banyule and Darebin.
Our instructors
Our experienced instructors are fully certified to instruct driving across all levels and are trained to work with people who are culturally and linguistically diverse or newly arrived to Australia. All our instructors have the following certifications and training:
- Driving Instructor Authority (DIA)
- Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving Instruction)
- Australian Police History Check
- Working with Children Check
- Child Safe training
- Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management
- Framework (MARAM) training
Language groups
Our multilingual female and male instructors are fluent in English and can deliver driving lessons in Kurdish, Arabic, Farsi, Hindi, Somali, Kashmir and Russian.
