Whittlesea Community Legal Service aims to provide free and readily accessible legal services to people who live, work or study in the area and who would otherwise not have access to legal services and assistance.
Services provided include :
Legal Advice
Free, confidential and professional advice on most areas of the law Daytime appointments We do not give telephone advice
Ongoing Assistance for people who
Have a case in which there are important issues of social justice. Cannot afford to pay private solicitors Cannot get assistance from Victoria Legal Aid
Information and Referral If we cannot provide you with a legal service, we may offer
Referral to other legal services, Self-help advice, resources and guidance.
Law Reform We work towards a legal system, which is fair and just. We do this by developing campaigns, conducting research and by lobbying for necessary change. Law reform is conducted using a community development model .
Community Legal Education We aim to make people more aware of the law so they can make more informed decisions. We provide education sessions, which outline your rights and responsibilities in various areas of law. These sessions are provided to groups on request however we actively seek out these opportunities and are happy to discuss ideas you might have. Outreach Services We offer regular outreach appointments at Kildonan Child and Family Services in South Morang, Mill Park Community House, Anglicare Plenty Valley in Lalor (for female clients who have family law/family violence issues) and Plenty Valley Community Health Services at the Whittlesea Township. Please telephone us to make an appointment at these locations. Drop-in Night Service This operates on Monday nights from 6.30pm until 8.30pm (except public holidays). No appointment necessary. Clients are seen on a first come first served basis.
