Whittlesea Community Engagement Project

Information for Agencies

Information for community members

What is the WCEP?
The Whittlesea Community Engagement project (WCEP) is an initiative funded by the State Government through the Department for Victorian Communities (DVC). The project aims to strengthen and expand levels of community involvement, participation and volunteer activity in Whittlesea's growing and diverse municipality.

The WCEP is based on the belief that when people in their local communities have opportunities to participate in the life of their community, by having a say and being involved in the work of local community organisations and governments, healthier and stronger communities are created.

How will the Project work?
The WCEP will involve consultation with Whittlesea residents and groups to identify ways in which local people would like to participate in their community - this may be through volunteering, attending community groups or having a say in how local services are delivered. The project will then work with local community organisations to ensure opportunities for community involvement reflect community needs and aspirations, and are of benefit to Whittlesea residents, groups and the broader community.

Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) will oversee the 2-year project with input from a project reference group, which is made up of local community members, community organisations and representatives from local government (Council).

Why would I want to be involved?
Whittlesea Community Connections values the input of community members and believes it is important for local residents to be given an opportunity to have their opinions heard. By being involved in the WCEP you will be having a say in how community organisations could make decisions, decisions that will reflect the needs of local people and improve opportunities for you and other people to get involved and participate in your community.

How can I get involved?
There are several ways you can get involved in the WCEP, these include;
· Telling us about your ideas, experiences and hopes for participating in the community by completing a survey or attending a focus groups
· Joining the project reference group which meets monthly, or by
· Contacting us with your opinions/suggestions.
